Become a Young Stargazer!
The Society for Popular Astronomy is pleased to announce a major new drive to encourage more young people to take up astronomy. We have set up the Young Stargazers - a new section of the society dedicated to the under 16s.
British National Space Centre (BNSC)
Space is an essential part of all of our lives: a whole range of modern technologies, from satellite navigation to the internet, depend completely on it. And it helps us to answer fundamental questions about life.
The British National Space Centre (BNSC) is at the heart of UK efforts to explore and exploit space. Formed from 10 Government Departments and research councils, we:
Galaxy Zoo 2
Welcome to Galaxy Zoo, where you can help astronomers explore the Universe
The Galaxy Zoo files contain almost a quarter of a million galaxies which have been imaged with a camera attached to a robotic telescope (the Sloan Digital Sky Survey, no less). In order to understand how these galaxies — and our own — formed, we need your help to classify them according to their shapes — a task at which your brain is better than even the fastest computer.
Kids Astronomy
Learning about science should never be boring. We will take you to the moons of Jupiter, and explore the possibility of life on these distant worlds. Travel through the expanse of the universe and discover just how much SPACE there is in Space. And we will learn how modern day scientists are pushing the limits of space exploration every day.
National Maritime Museum & Royal Observatory
The National Maritime Museum comprises three sites: the Maritime Galleries, the Royal Observatory and the Queen's House. Together these constitute one museum working to illustrate for everyone the importance of the sea, ships, time and the stars and their relationship with people.
Stellarium - View the Stars

Stellarium is a free open source planetarium for your computer. It shows a realistic sky in 3D, just like what you see with the naked eye, binoculars or a telescope.
It is being used in planetarium projectors. Just set your coordinates and go.
Views of the Solar System
Views of the Solar System presents a vivid multimedia adventure unfolding the splendor of the Sun, planets, moons, comets, asteroids, and more. Discover the latest scientific information, or study the history of space exploration, rocketry, early astronauts, space missions, spacecraft through a vast archive of photographs, scientific facts, text, graphics and videos. Views of the Solar System offers enhanced exploration and educational enjoyment of the solar system and beyond.
Windows to the Universe
Windows to the Universe is a user-friendly learning system covering the Earth and Space sciences for use by the general public. Windows to the Universe has been in development since 1995. Our goal is to build an internet site that includes a rich array of documents, including images, movies, animations, and data sets, that explore the Earth and Space sciences and the historical and cultural ties between science, exploration, and the human experience. Our site is appropriate for use in libraries, museums, schools, homes, and the workplace.
Year of Astronomy 2009
Welcome to the International Year of Astronomy in the UK!
In 2009 the world celebrates the International Year of Astronomy to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Galileo's use of a telescope to study the night sky. 2009 is also the anniversary of many other important dates in the history of science, such as the publishing of Kepler's Astronomia Nova, Huygens' Systema Saturnium, and the first moon landing.
For this celebration astronomers around the world are inviting people like you, and your friends and family, to look up in wonder at the night sky, and to seek out answers to some of life's biggest questions.
This website will provide everything you need to know about what is happening in the International Year of Astronomy 2009 in the UK, making the Universe yours to discover!
